10 Best Restaurants in Milos, Greece

Last updated on February 5th, 2023

Milos is one of Greece’s hidden gems but has become increasingly popular due to its unique beaches, quiet villages, and exceptional cuisine.

Most people venture to this stunning island to soak up the sun and spend their days swimming in the crystal-clear water.

With fresh ingredients and lovely waterfront seating, the restaurants here are another reason to come back again and again.

With numerous small villages scattered around the island, it may be hard to narrow down what restaurants to try.

Therefore, I’ve selected some of the most popular restaurants based on location and type of cuisine that are sure to impress. Here are 10 of the best restaurants in Milos.

Enjoy!

Milos travel guide

Yialas

Known for: Fresh seafood, harbor views

Location: Pollonia

With some of the best views of the sunset from Pollonia and impressive dishes, Yialas (Greek spelling is Gialos) is easily one of the best Milos restaurants and our favorite overall. Several locals recommended it to us, and it did not disappoint.

I had their seafood spaghetti and greek salad. Both were fresh and made with homemade ingredients. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was impeccable.

Sit near the water and watch the sunset over the harbor. Reservations are recommended here as they are one of the busiest restaurants in the village.

O! Hamos!

Known For: Authentic greek cuisine, fresh ingredients

Location: Adamas

O! Hamos! It is one of the most popular restaurants in Milos. The quaint taverna overlooks Papikinou Beach near the port of Adamas. It is known for delicious Greek cuisine with lots of traditional dishes.

Best of all, the family-run business has built a reputation for using ingredients from their farms.

Grab a spot in the restaurant or lounge on a beach chair for a relaxing meal near the water.

The wait to get seated may be a little while as they do not take reservations, but you will be glad you did.

Medusa

Known For: Mediterranean food, great views

Location: Mandrakia

Medusa is another restaurant you will most likely hear about from many people. And in case you are wondering, it lives up to its reputation. Medusa sits in the small village of Mandrakia and is a staple in Milos.

Perched on a cliff overlooking the water, guests can enjoy a spectacular view that matches the popular menu. If you love Mediterranean dishes, you will love it here.

Two of the most popular dishes here are their grilled octopus and calamari. They also offer a whole assortment of entrees if you are not up for seafood, and all for very fair prices.

Like many restaurants in Milos, Medusa does not take reservations. However, the wait does not take too long, and you can relax near the water with an aperitif while you wait.

Avli-Milos

Known For: Meat dishes, lively atmosphere

Location: Plaka

Avli-Milos is a must-try during your stay in Milos. They have the best authentic Greek cuisine and outdoor tables for great people-watching.

In addition, they offer a large section of meat and pasta dishes and a delicious dessert menu.

Unfortunately, Avli-Milos does not take reservations and fills up quickly in the evenings. To try and beat the crowd, opt for an earlier dinner when the restaurant opens at 5 pm.

After your meal, explore the rest of Plaka and end your night at Kri Kri for some delicious cocktails and live music.

Sirocco Volcanic Restaurant

Known For: Unique culinary experience

Location: Paleochuri Beach

Sirocco is directly on Paleochuri beach, allowing you to either dine in the restaurant or have your meal with your toes in the sand. Customers can relax in style for $15 per lounge chair while fully accessing Sirocco’s food and drink menu.

Although the entire menu is quite extraordinary, the unique cooking method used here has put Sirocco on the map.

The restaurant is near volcanic sand that produces large amounts of heat. Hot enough, in fact, that customers can choose to have their fish or meat prepared in the sand.

The Sirocco Volcanic Restaurant was one of our favorite places to eat in Milos, and we had to take advantage of the unique menu options.

We not only got to choose our fish but were able to help garnish and prepare it and took a tour down to the beach to see how the cooking process works.

Just a heads up, this cooking method takes about 40 minutes, but with a tasty appetizer and a cocktail, the time flew by. One of the most memorable and delectable meals we had!

Nostos Seafood Experience

Known For: Water Views, Large Seafood Menu

Location: Adamas

Nostos Seafood Experience is one of the top seafood restaurants in Adamas. They are also known for their extensive wine list.

They do have other meat options as well if you do not want seafood! No matter what you order, ask your server for a wine recommendation to pair with your meal.

What put this restaurant on the list was not just the food but the uninterrupted views of the harbor. Grab a seat on the water for a romantic, and delicious meal.

Enalion

Known For: Seafood and pasta dishes, excellent wine list

Location: Pollonia

With an extensive wine menu and views of the harbor, Enalion is another popular restaurant in Pollonia.

Enalion is right in the square, and you have options of both indoor garden seating and outdoor tables near the water.

Even more exceptional than their wine is the seafood menu. Their menu consists of all fresh ingredients, and their pasta and shrimp saganaki (one of their famous dishes) were delicious. Try their local cheese platter and ask your server for the perfect wine pairing with your meal.

Make reservations ahead of time, especially if you want a table near the water.

Kivotos

Known For: Delicious backed goods

Location: Pollonia

This cozy restaurant doubles as a bakery. We first came to grab some desserts to go and were so blown away that we went back the next day for breakfast.

In addition to pastries, the shop has a variety of homemade honey, baked goods, and preserves.

Kivotos also has a to-go counter for a quick coffee and breakfast items and a delightful outdoor patio if you want to eat there.

Although it is hard to narrow down, their chocolate cake was our favorite sweet treat. One of the owners even gave us some homemade vanilla ice cream to go with it.

Armenaki

Known For: Plates to share, wine menu

Location: Pollonia

Run by the same family since its opening, Armenaki is a staple in the fishing village of Pollonia. Armenaki has more of a tapas menu with lots of small plates to share. They also have a variety of pasta and seafood entrees.

Their menu is constantly changing as they use only seasonal ingredients and make their dishes with the freshest produce.

Armenaki prides itself on its wine menu, with wines curated from all over Greece. No matter what you order, they have a complimentary wine for it!

Astakas

Know For: Fresh seafood, waterside dining

Location: Klima

Astakas is located in the small fishing village of Klima. With fresh produce and fish brought in every day, Astakas is a popular dinner spot.

We visited during the day and were able to get a seat for lunch without reservations, but you will need them for dinner.

Our entire meal was delicious! Their pandessia salad was my personal favorite, and the view of the water made for the perfect backdrop for our meal.

Aggeliki Ice Cream Shop

Known For: Ice cream and breakfast

Location: Adamas

This ice cream shop is one of the best for a tasty after-meal treat. With some unique flavors and a wide variety of toppings, Aggeliki stays busy all day long.

They have traditional flavors like strawberry and chocolate, as well as unique flavors such as banana and kaimaki (a traditional Greek flavor).

They also offer pastries, waffles, and breakfast items if you’re not feeling ice cream. Not only do they provide tasty entrees, but the prices here are affordable and the portions large.

Gyros of Milos

Known For: Cheap and casual meal

Location: Adamas

You can’t visit Greece without trying a traditional Gyro. Gyros of Milos is a low-key and inexpensive restaurant that makes some of the best gyros around.

The restaurant has an extensive menu with many different plates and pitas. Gyros is a great cheap place to eat in Milos.

It makes for the perfect late-night meal or lunch spot. They also have takeaway available if you want a meal to bring to the beach.

Important Milos Travel Information

Weather in Milos

The weather is warm and sunny between May and October with little rain. The island’s north side stays windy all year round, so the more swimmable beaches are on the south.

How Many Days to Spend in Milos

Between 3-5 days is a reasonable amount of time to spend in Milos. This gives you plenty of time to see all the villages and beautiful sites, and relax. There are over 70 beaches alone to explore here!

Best Time to Visit

The most popular time to go is between the end of June and the beginning of September. The weather is at its peak this time of year but expect larger crowds and higher prices.

July and August are the best times for swimming as the water can be colder than other times of the year. For warm weather and fewer crowds, visit from late May to early June or even late September.

How to Get to Milos

Milos can be accessed both by ferry and plane. The easiest way to access the island is by taking a ferry from islands such as Mykonos or Santorini or directly from Athens.

Take the Ferry

Since Milos is in the Cyclades, several ferry companies, such as SeaJets and Blue Star, offer daily routes.

The number of departures depends mainly on the time of year you plan to travel. During peak season, there are 2-3 departures each day. When we visited in early June, there was only one available option.

Fly into Milos

The Milos Island National Airport is small. Some airlines that offer flights here are Aegean Airlines, Sky Express, and Olympic Air.

Most direct flights are to and from Athens and take about 40 minutes. If you would like to fly from Milos to another island, you will most likely have a layover in Athens.

Since Milos is close to the other Cycladic islands, there is no need for the extra expense of plane tickets. Instead, fast ferries will get you to neighboring islands in just a couple of hours. It is always a good option to have, though!

How to Get Around Milos

The most popular way to get around Milos is by renting a car or ATV. Although the island is not very large, the beaches and villages are spread apart, and many destinations do not have public transportation available.

The port town of Adamas has a large number of rental companies available. Many of these will deliver your rental to your hotel, even if you are outside Adamas.

Scooter or ATV Rental

The roads here are pretty easy to navigate, and you can reach any destination in under 30 minutes. Before you book, check with your hotel concierge. Many will book the rentals for you!

Rent a Car

If you are not comfortable driving an ATV, a car rental is your best option. Car rentals are much more practical and less expensive than taking taxis everywhere and allow you the flexibility to stop anywhere.

Take a Taxi

Some hotels offer a shuttle to pick you up from the ferry port. Taxis are also available in the main towns and will drive you around for a fixed rate. The town of Adamas has a large taxi hub where they are readily available. I do not recommend trying to find taxis anywhere else, though. They are much more difficult to find.

Conclusion

Milos is one of the best destinations for traditional Mediterranean food. No matter where you are on the island, you will find only dishes made with fresh and local ingredients. The cuisine alone will have you going back again and again.
