The famous Kleftiko Caves and whitewashed Serakinko rock formations are two places that have put Milos on everyone’s radar. But with over 70 different beaches, there is so much more to discover.
Escape to a remote location, relax at a beachfront taverna, or explore the many sea caves. But where to start?
With many options and beaches scattered across the coastline, narrowing down which to see can be challenging, especially for a short stay.
This guide details 10 of the best beaches in Milos and includes tips on making the most of your beach experience.

Tips for Visiting Milos Beaches
When to Visit Milos
The best time to visit Milos is between June and September. Even in June, the water is surprisingly cold.
Best Swimming Spots in Milos
Milos can get windy, and the water tends to be choppiest on the island’s north end. As a result, the beaches on the south side are the best for swimming.
What to Bring to Milos Beaches
Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat. The sun here is very strong, with few shaded areas. You may also want to bring water and snacks with you. Although some beaches haves facilities, many do not.
Milos Beach Facilities
Not all beaches have facilities. Before planning your itinerary, consider accommodations such as public bathrooms and food. Don’t worry; I will include both in this post!
Rent Your Own Vehicle
Rental cars and ATVs allow you to come and go as you please and reach even the most remote areas.
Get a Boat or Join a Tour
One of the best ways to explore Milos’s many beaches is by renting a boat or going on a boat tour. Plus, you can only explore places like Kleftiko by boat, and that is one location you cannot miss.
Top Beaches in Milos Greece
Kleftiko Caves
Kleftiko is at the top of Milos’s bucket list! The beautiful caves are on the island’s south side and are only accessible by boat. The white rock formations contrast beautifully with the crystal clear turquoise water.
Though this is not an actual beach, Kleftiko is probably the first destination on everyone’s to-do list.
The water here is perfect for snorkeling, and you can relax on a boat or explore the caves.
Getting to Kleftiko
The only real way to access the caves is by boat. I recommend getting your own boat for a more leisurely experience or booking a Milos boat tour.
Since there are no facilities here, pack snacks and lots of water if you decide to visit on your own.
We used Poseidon Milos for our boat rental. They offer a half-day rental for $175 and a full-day rental for $225. Whichever you choose, try to get to Kleftiko early in the day to beat any crowds. Rental pickup is near Firplaka beach, a short 30-minute boat ride to Kleftiko.
Milos Boat Tours
Tour Companies are also great options and include additional perks such as snorkeling, food, and drinks. Many also have luxurious catamarans and crew so that you can explore the Aegean in style. Here are some of the most popular cruises available.
- Full-Day Cruise to Kleftiko Caves and Polyaigos: This cruise takes you to all the popular beaches in Milos. It leaves from Adamas and takes you first past some fishing villages to Polyaigos Island with time to explore. You also stop by places like the Sulfur Mines and Gerakas beach before stopping at the Kleftiko Caves for lunch and snorkeling. Finally, you will stop at the Cave of Sykia before returning to the port.
- Full-Day Snorkel Cruise to Kleftiko Caves: Another popular cruise, this one focuses on some of the small fishing villages and beaches in Milos. Some of the stops include Agathia and Triades beaches. You will have plenty of time to relax and explore both the Klefiko Caves and what waters near Klima Village. And, of course, food and beverages are included!
- Half-Day Klima Speedboat Cruise: This is the perfect tour if you do not want to spend the entire day on the water. The speedboat takes you to the Sykia Caves and Kleftiko. You will have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the water. Best of all, you get free GoPros and Drone photos to keep afterward.
- How to get to Kleftiko Caves: Accessed only by boat.
- Facilities and Food: There are no facilities here. Many companies will supply lunch for you if you visit as part of a boat tour.
Paleochori Beach
Pelochuri Beach is in the northeast part of the island. Several resort rentals are here, and it is easy to drive to the port. The beach is open to the public, but beach chairs are available to rent through Sirroco restaurant.
Of all the beaches on Milos, this was probably my favorite in terms of relaxation. It is not as busy as Fyriplaka but offers all the same amenities, including water sports rentals.
The best part of Paleochori is Sirocco Volcanic restaurant. With some of the freshest seafood and spectacular water views, it is one of the best restaurants in Milos.
Although their entire menu looks amazing, the unique way they cook their food is what draws people here.
Due to the beach’s heat from volcanic activity, part of the menu can be purchased and cooked in the volcanic sand right in front of you.
- How to get to Paleochori Beach: Car, ATV, or bus from Adamas. There are also several hotels located on the beach.
- Facilities and Food: The beach restaurants and beach bars. There are also several facilities here, including shops and watersports.
Sarakiniko Beach
Sarakiniko Beach is one of the most unique “beaches” in Greece. Unlike the many sand and pebble beaches, Sarakiniko is a large formation of smooth, float rocks.
Recently the backdrop of some luxury brand commercials, Sarakikno has catapulted Milos’s tourist numbers.
The whitewashed rocks stretch overtop of the water with many crevices to swim and explore. This unique beach is a photographer’s dream!
One of the busiest beaches, you will find people relaxing all over the white rock and swimming in the shallow waters.
The rock formation is extensive, and if you don’t mind a short hike, you can easily find a more remote location away from the crowds.
Since Sarakiniko stays busy throughout the day, the quietest time to visit is early morning for sunrise. The beach is the most deserted at this time.
Sarakiniko is also popular for watching the sunset and can get quite busy at night!
So for a romantic evening, pack and picnic and some wine and enjoy watching the sunset over the water.
- How to get to Sarakiniko Beach: The best way is by car or ATV. The road to the beach is unpaved but relatively simple to maneuver, and there is a large free parking lot at the entrance. If you do not have a car, there is also a bus that takes you to Sarakinko from Adamas. For more information on fares and timetables, click here.
- Facilities and Food: There are no facilities available here, but there is a small food truck at the beach entrance.
Tisigrado Beach
One of the smaller beaches in Milos, Tisigrado, can only access by a ladder on the side of the cliff. Many people love it for its remote location and quiet atmosphere. It is on the south side of Milos, close to other famous beaches.
Though the beach is not very large, the crystal-clear waters and beautiful cliffs make this a popular beach for those looking for something more remote.
The best time to visit is early morning through the afternoon. If you go too late the beach will be too shady to layout.
However, since you can only reach it by climbing down a ladder, this is not recommended for families with children unless you have a boat.
- How to get to Tisigrado Beach: The easiest way is by car or ATV. I recommend parking at Fyriplaka and walking the short distance there.
- Facilities and Food: There are no facilities or food available.
Fyriplaka Beach
Another popular beach is Fyriplaka due to its long stretch of sandy coastline and facilities.
Located on the island’s East side, the water is relatively calm here, making this beach the perfect location for swimming and snorkeling.
The beach is easily identified by its large orange and pink cliffs and massive rock sitting on the beach.
Many people come here to relax on a beach chair with a cocktail in their hand.
The beach has a parking lot making it perfect for families and easily accessible. The beach is easy to spot due to the pink cliffs standing behind it.
- How to get to Fyriplaka Beach: The easiest way is by car or ATV since it is a little more remote; however, some buses will take you there. The beach does have a parking lot. For more information on fares and timetables, click here.
- Facilities and Food: There are changing rooms and toilets here Fyriplaka also has a beach bar that will deliver food and drinks right to your chair
Gerakas Beach
Another remote beach is Gerakas. Only accessed by boat, it is the perfect stop on the way to or from Kleftiko.
You can easily see the beach due to its white cliff backdrop. The sandy beach is large, and the water is perfect for swimming.
We saw a handful of large boats anchored just off the coast. We felt like it was easily one of the prettiest beaches on Milos, but it is still under the radar and, therefore, primarily untouched.
If you have a boat, I highly recommend stopping here or joining a tour that does.
- How to get to Gerakas Beach: You can only access Gerakas by boat.
- Facilities and Food: There are no facilities or food here.
Papafragas
On the east side of the island on the way to Pollonia is Papafragas. The rock formations here are some of the most unique on the island. The most exciting part of the beach is the sea caves that have been naturally carved into the cliff.
Papafragas is right next to one of the islands main roads. You will pass it on your way to and from the town of Pollonia. It is definitely worth checking out!
If you climb down the hill, there is a small stretch of sand and a shallow section of water for swimming.
You can swim through the caves if you are up for some adventure. The waves here can get intense, though, so make sure to check the water conditions before exploring.
The beach here is quite small and not ideal for sunbathing. Most people stop by to check out the unique landscape for a while and exploring the caves.
- How to get to Papafragas Beach: Car or ATV are the easiest forms of transportation. The beach is also a short taxi ride from Pollonia.
- Facilities and Food: There are no facilities are food here. The beach is only a few minutes drives from town though!
Firopotomos Beach
On the north side of the island, near the town of Firopotamos, is the pebble Firopotamos beach. The small fishing village does not have much of a beach; the beautiful blue homes and cliffside make this a stunning location.
People come here mainly to take in the picturesque fishing village, which is quite the backdrop for some photos.
Behind the village’s church is a tall hill that you are able to climb. When you get to the top, you will have the best views of the bay.
Like I said early, the beach here is small and pebbled. It is not ideal for lounging, but being in a bay offers a calm swimming spot.
Although some vacation rentals are available here, you will not find any public facilities.
- How to get to Firopotomas Beach: By car/ATV rental or taxi.
- Facilities and Food: There is a snack bar available on the beach. Toilets are available for restaurant guests
Pollonia Beach
Pollonia is one of the best beaches for families and one of the most easily accessible. Since it is in the bay of Pollonia, the water is shallow and calm here. Some chair rentals are available, but most of the beach is free to use.
If you would rather stay in one place for the day instead of hop around from beach to beach, I would recommend coming here.
With everything you need, you don’t have to go anywhere and can explore the town and escape the sun at a local restaurant if you need a break from the beach.
Due to its proximity to restaurants, long stretch of sandy beach, and facilities, many locals come here to relax. It is especially perfect if you are staying in the town.
I highly recommend taking a nighttime stroll or grabbing a bite at one of Pollonia’s beachside restaurants for stunning sunset views.
- How to get to Pollonia Beach: By car/ATV rental or taxi to Pollonia. If you stay in the village, you can get there on foot.
- Facilities and Food: Shops, car rentals, and toilets available. There are dozens of restaurants along the beach.
Klima Beach
The fishing village of Klima is known for its row of colorful fishing houses. In the middle sits the delightful restaurant, Astakas, situated on the beach.
The original fishing homes sit on the waterfront on the left side of the restaurant. Here you will find a thin strip of pebble beach.
On the opposite side of Astakas is a small sandy beach. Several new vacation rentals have been built here with access to the water. The beach is public, though, and very quiet.
The water here is very shallow, calm, and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Klima also has a few wood peers to sit and sunbathe.
- How to get to Klima Beach: The best way is by car/ATV.
- Facilities and Food: There is one restaurant here. Make dinner reservations because they get busy at night. Bathrooms are available for restaurant customers.
Important Milos Travel Information
Weather in Milos
The weather is warm and sunny between May and October with little rain. The island’s north side stays windy all year round, so the more swimmable beaches are on the south.
How Many Days to Spend in Milos
Between 3-5 days is a reasonable amount of time to spend in Milos. This gives you plenty of time to see all the villages and beautiful sites, and relax. There are over 70 beaches alone to explore here!
Best Time to Visit
The most popular time to go is between the end of June and the beginning of September. The weather is at its peak this time of year but expect larger crowds and higher prices.
July and August are the best times for swimming as the water can be colder than other times of the year. For warm weather and fewer crowds, visit from late May to early June or even late September.
How to Get to Milos
Milos can be accessed both by ferry and plane. The easiest way to access the island is by ferrying from islands such as Mykonos or Santorini or directly from Athens.
Fly into Milos
The airport in Milos is small, but you can fly direct from Athens in about 40 minutes. If you want to fly from another island, just know that you will have a layover in Athens.
Take the Ferry
Since Milos is in the Cyclades, several ferry companies, such as SeaJets and Blue Star, offer daily routes.
The number of departures depends mainly on the time of year you plan to travel. During peak season, there are 2-3 departures each day. When we visited in early June, there was only one available option.
How to Get Around Milos
The most popular way to get around Milos is by renting a car or ATV. Although the island is not very large, the beaches and villages are spread apart, and many destinations do not have public transportation available.
The port town of Adamas has a large number of rental companies available. Many of these will deliver your rental to your hotel, even if you are outside Adamas.
Scooter or ATV Rental
The roads here are pretty easy to navigate, and you can reach any destination in under 30 minutes. Before you book, check with your hotel concierge. Many will book the rentals for you!
Rent a Car
If you are not comfortable driving an ATV, a car rental is your best option. Car rentals are much more practical and less expensive than taking taxis everywhere and allow you the flexibility to stop anywhere.
Take a Taxi
Some hotels offer a shuttle to pick you up from the ferry port. Taxis are also available in the main towns and will drive you around for a fixed rate. The town of Adamas has a large taxi hub where they are readily available. I do not recommend trying to find taxis anywhere else, though. They are much more difficult to find.
Conclusion
There are plenty of beaches to choose from in Milos, each as unique as the next. When planning your itinerary, consider location, facilities, and transportation. And try not to pack too much into your day, the whole point is to relax!
